Winner of the Carolina Novel Award, this is the story of Maggie Sweet, whose great ambition has always been to style hair. But her husband won't hear of it -- and now he's spent all their vacation... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I loved this book from cover to cover. I love our main character Maggie Sweet. I identified with her very well. Although, I was hoping that things would have turned out better for her and her husband, I hope that she finds true love wherever she may end up. I can't wait to read the next installment! I would have loved the other characters to have more of a female closeness but this book still delighted me!
My favorite book so far this summer!

*Maggie Sweet* (also known as *Styles by Maggie Sweet in the paperback version) is the best book I've read all summer. It'll tickle your funny bone and shock the pants right off you in just about every sentence. I plan to recommend this to my family, friends and book buddies!Maggie is a North Carolina stay-at-home mom (read: maid) to twin teen daughters and wife (read: servant) to high school teacher, Steven. Although for most of her adult life she accepted her life with few arguments, she's begun to wonder if this is all she'll ever have. And when her twenty year high school reunion comes up with the return of her high school sweetheart, Maggie re-thinks her unfulfilling marriage to stolid Steven.A hilarious cast of characters surround Maggie and her family including a wacky best friend and country singing star-to-be, Mary Price, and a grandmother with more pizazz than Joan Rivers, Mama Dean. You'll have a ball; this book guarantees it!

I'm a Southerner who read this during a cold northern spring. It was such a treat, the perfect antidote to the gray skies outside. Warm, funny, and friendly. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to smile at the end of a tough day.
Charming, heart warming and funny.

Fun and easy to read. Enjoyed the characters and southern dialogue. Maggie is an unhappy housewife who begins to assert herself and finally take charge of her life. A very entertaining read.
