Super Senses Save the Day!: A Story about the Five Senses

My 5-year-old daughter is a huge Backyardigans fan, as are my husband and I. So, naturally, when we found out we were having a baby, we were glad to have another child to introduce to the show and its related books. I've bought a couple of the board books for my nephew, who also loves them, and when I saw this book, I knew I had to get it for my as-yet unborn son. I read this book to my new baby yesterday and, as with all of the Backyardigans books and DVDs I've purchased over the last several years, I was very pleased with it. The colors in the book are simply beautiful. Each page is chock full of vibrant, cute illustrations of the characters and their surroundings. Even better is the tale itself, which has to do with Tasha and a muffin theft inspired by her highly acute sense of taste. Rather than a boring tale about the sense or a book merely about associations, this book has a cute story in which each of the five characters possesses one heightened sense. Together, the five of them create a formidable team. The Backyardigans have been around for several years now but the show and the books never fail to innovate. They are always cute and sweet, the stories gentle tales about things that matter (manners, being kind to others, etc.) but the stories are never preachy. I'm quite happy to say that this is one children's show that never fails to delight and whose products only improve with time.
