Drawing on the observations of clinical psychotherapy, Sieburth explores the way in which listening to Piquer's coplas enabled persecuted, ostracized citizens to subconsciously use music, role-play, ritual, and narrative to mourn safely and without fear of repercussion from the repressive state.
