This thrilling story of the Chinook salmon beautifully illustrates nature's circle and the cycle of life. The story of the Chinook salmon is nothing less than a miracle of nature. She hatches from a tiny pearl-colored egg and begins her adventure - a 10,000-mile journey from the gravel bed of Caribou Creek to the Pacific and back. This book is part of the PAWS IV Publishing series and was originally published in 1995. Special thanks to biologists Bill Bushur, Henry Yuen, Suzi Lozo and Richard Barnes and elder Elena Charles and all the kids and parents from Newtok, Atmautlauk, Napaskiak and Kwethluk who helped me understand yaaruiq.

I thought that Swimmer was a GREAT book! It was full of fun and ineresting facts about Salmon, and their life stages. It also had some pretty cool facts about Alaska. My teacher read it to us and I learned a whole lot! This book is great for ALL ages. And it's excellent for book reports too! So any time you're not busy you should really read this book!

I think this book is a great book. My teacher Mrs. Allen read it to me and my class. Swimmer was a fiction and non-fiction book. Shelley Gill will be coming to our school on Monday October 16, 2000. My favorite thing about this book is the facts and the story. My two favorite characters were the little girl and Swimmer. It was astounding to me how the salmon knew where and how the salmon knew to go to the ocean. I gave it a 5 stars because of its action. I thought that it was scary when Swimmer was about to be eaten by a killer whale. I loved how he hid so close to the ledge, and how the salmon jumped. My teacher told us a story about her adventures with salmon. She also told us about how people watched the salmon jump up streams and being eaten by a Grizzly Bears. I thought that was sad how they were eatan, but again I eat them too. When I eat salmon I eat it eather baked or fried. Swimmer was an awesome book to me and some of my friends. I hope Shelley Gill likes our school and enjoys our students!
