I discovered this book over 40 years ago, I read it to my son over 20 years ago. I lost my copy and one day I saw it on this website. Absolutely still my favorite. The perfect tween fantasy. When you find it snap it up- it will become a treasured family heirloom to read yourself, to read to your children, and they to theirs. Thrilling and delightful, a thoroughly magical book!

This book follows Taash, an orphan who is taken away from his abusive foster parent and given to a "witch and her friend." As the book goes on, he meets Kashka and Piff, two twin cousin jesters who don't see each other that much. THen, he sees some witches trying to curse a small baby. He instinctively grabs the baby away and saves the baby's life.As it turns out, the baby is a prince. Taash and his new friends, one of which is PIff, set out to return the baby to his parents, the king and queen whom Kashka and Piff serve. The only catch is that there is a gang of dangerous witches who want the baby too. When they finally get to the palace, Taash learns who he is, just as the witches strike. THis book is great and I'm not going to tell you how it ends. IT's a real surprise. THis book is the best...I would and do read it over and over agian. I recommend it for all fantasy readers. THey will really enjoy it.
Fun and fantasy for all ages

I first read this book as a child and was utterly captivated. The book is full of magic, humor and adventure; what more could a kid want? The characters were truly interesting and so it wasn't surprising that now, at least 25 years after I found the book, I learned that my friends' kids also enjoyed it. Re-reading it as an adult, I still thought it a pretty good story although not sophisticated by any means. However is was full of good clean fun with the age-old good vs. evil story.I heartily recommend this book to everyone that likes a good read, whatever their age.

An abosrbing fantasy novel in which a misfit boy is sent to live with a witch. A lost baby prince, a wicked Queen, and two jesters combine in a memorable young adult novel. A fun read.
