Greg Perry does a great job of bringing this topic down to the beginner level. The example programs are bare-bones programs (sometimes even silly) but they well serve the topic being discussed. I love his diagrams and explanations of pointers. It is clear and very concise. If you are new to C or C++ and still fuzzy about pointers, buy this book. You will learn pointers, which are very important if you want to do any real programming. I give it 4 stars only because the material is a bit dated now and covers a very old version of a Borland product. But to learn C++ or to use as a syntax reference, this book gets 5 stars.
