Helena Fitzhugh understands perfectly well that she would be ruined should her secret love affair be discovered. But when a rendezvous goes wrong and she is about to be caught in the act, she is forced to accept help from a man she truly despises, David Hillsborough, and announce that she has eloped with him. But David has always loved Helena and after a carriage accident causes her to lose her memory, he seizes the chance to tell her of his love. But when her memory returns, can Helena learn to trust and love a man she had sworn never to like?
Brief synopsis - heroine trying to have an affair with rather weak married man. Hero, long in love with her, tries to stop her from ruining her reputation. Despite a tempestuous and sometimes nasty relationship between them, he has to offer marriage to save her reputation. She loses her memory in an accident giving him a chance to start their relationship anew before she remembers how much she detests him.
Interesting characters, introduced in the two earlier books in the series. Their behavior is somewhat inconsistent but the plot is real. My biggest complaint is the paucity of humor - just a whisper here and there in the dialogue.
