Since its publication in 1998, "The $100 Hamburger- A Guide to Pilot's Favorite Fly-In Restaurants" has become more than a book. It is a cultural phenomenon felt far outside its intended target market, general aviation owner pilots. Virtually every aviation magazine has written about the book. The April 2001 edition of Plane& Pilot referred to it as "general aviation's version of the Zagat Guide". The November 2001 edition of Flying pointed it out to "Fly-in diners intent on finding decent $100 Hamburgers."The mainstream media has covered as well. The July 26, 2001 edition of The Wall Street Journal featured an above the fold, front page article of 23 column inches. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune and others had written flattering feature articles on our book over the life of the next edition. The book's companion website clocks over 450,000 site visits per month. Each week it receives 50 to 100 updates (PIREPs) from our pilot readers. These PIREPs affect over 80% of the sites reported on in the book. New restaurants have opened, some restaurants and even some airports have closed. Today only twenty percent of the data from the current edition is fully accurate. The new edition will feature over 80% new content - new restaurants, new airports, and completely updated reports on both from pilots all over the US, Canada, and the UK.
The $100 Hamburger has been a primary resource for my flight planning. I use this book in conjunction with John's web site to plan my flights. The book has saved me hundreds of dollars in car rentals. It has protected my stomach from indigestion that comes from vending machine food. Every pilot needs to know which airports have easy access to good food. I don't leave the ground without it! 12/21/05 Clearly things change. Books can't stay up to date every day. I stand by John's book. If you have currency issues, then visit the supporting web site. He keeps a very up to date webpage that fulfills the upto date wishes. You should check it out. You should provide these inputs to the web page.

Please notice that the other reviews mentioned refer to The first edition. This is the second edition and it is totally up to date. It corrects the problems mentioned about the 1st Edition. Those reveiws are valid for the 1st Edition but not the 2nd. Any review dated before the publication date, November, 2003 of the 2nd Edition refers to the 1st Edition.Thnaks for taking the time to place the proper reviews with the proper book.
A MUST HAVE FOR ALL PILOTS

This book is perfect to plan a fun outing in the plane and get some good food too. It is the only book of it's kind out there. People are complaining about not getting restaurant updates like Jeppessen does with their charts. Well think about how often a new restaurant is built on a field. Rarely does this happen and if it's nearby you'll hear about at your local FBO. So go ahead and tough it out and pick up a copy. It is well worth it.
Very Good Guide but needs some updating.

I purchased this book about 6 months ago and have been able to use it when flying all over Florida with my wife. Several of the cafe's have changed names but were well worth visiting. The only drawback is a lack of directions at most fields exept "ask ground, they will give you progressive taxi to the parking area". This is fine for a small airport but is inconvient for a large airport and sometimes does not work at all, especially with CTAF. I have also used the book in my travels throughout the US and it has come in hady on several occasions. In all, a good guide.
Where do you want to fly for lunch?

A LONG OVER-DUE COVERAGE OF THOSE PLACES A PRIVATE PILOT CAN GO FOR A SNACK (MEAL) ON A LOVELY VFR DAY IN THE SUMMER. NO ONE HAS ACCOMPLISHED THIS BEFORE AND IT WILL CERTAINLY ENCOURAGE THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GO ON A BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY TO GAS UP AND HEAD OUT!!! GREAT FOR THE PRIVATE PILOT LOKING FOR A GASTRONOMIC DESTINATION.I RATE IT FOUR HAMBURGERS.
