As a researcher and writer, working on a thesis regarding the military in the 1860s, this book has proved invaluable. While reading old military orders about "Article 60" or "Article 101" - what are they? This book tells me. It has helped explain much regarding the operation and even the mental set of the military in the 1860s and has greatly benefited me in my work. In addition, the reprint of volume by Stackpole Press is historically stimulating to see what the tpe and actual volume looked like at the time of publication.
