The Adventures of Amelia Loggerhead

Experience the world through the eyes of Amelia, a beautiful intelligent Loggerhead turtle as she travels on her lifelong journey across the vast Pacific Ocean. Born on Yakushima Island in Japan, one of a hundred hatchlings, Amelia's survival is immediately threatened as she wriggles and crawls to the temporary safety of the ocean's kelp beds. As a young 10 year old juvenile and following the instincts of her ancient ancestors, Amelia swims and drifts eastward 8,119 miles until she arrives in a little backwater region off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. It is in Baja that Amelia develops a life-long friendship with Carlos, the 10 year old son of Santiago, a fisherman who hunts turtles to support his family. Like she does for Carlos, Amelia will enlighten and transform the reader's view of the world, from marine biology, to the dangers of global warming, to the pollution of our oceans caused by plastic bags and straws, to the rapid extinction of the world's endangered species of animals caused by the devastating consequences of overfishing, overhunting, and oil spills.
