Can be a bit confusing without having read the previous book in the series of 3 (Werewolves of London, Angel of Pain, Carnival of Destruction), but is full of great ideas, pleasantly flawed characters, and victorian imagery. I didn't find the language unreadable as a teenager, and my only real criticism is that the notion of 'enlightenment through suffering' may get a bit repetative after a while.
