"The Ascension" by Michael G. Cornelius is truly a book that screams to be read. Following in the traditions of horror, suspense, and intrigue of such great authors as Dan Brown and Michael Crichton, "The Asension" takes readers on an extraordinary journey through fear and faith, leaving readers with a chill up their spines and a thirst for more. His characters are well thought out and portrayed, each with distinct personalities and accompanying tribulations that reel you in right from the beginning. Det. Cal Evans and Agent Velvet Rabinowitz have fantastic chemistry for the perfect sleuth team, with just the right amount of sexual tension. The secondary characters, while doing a great job of supporting the story, are just as fascinating as their main counterparts leaving you to care about them just as much as Cal and Velvet. The action and suspense most definitely keep readers on the edge of their Lazyboys, leaving them to stir at the slightest tap at the window and waking up the sleepy, dark hollows of their own fear. Cornelius does a great job in holding the suspense right to the end and leaves the reader with just one lingering question: "Has this evil truly ended, or is this just the beginning of something even more menacing?" And he definitely leaves room for an equally terrifying sequel... Michael G. Cornelius is undeniably a writer to keep your eye on.

The Ascension is a terrifying new book from Michael G. Cornelius that pretty much scared the pants off of me. The description is so vivid you feel like you are at the crime scenes, you can feel for the characters (who are so real, you wish you really truly knew them) and the suspense and horror is so intense I had to read it with the overhead light on. Disclaimer: if you are squeamish with snakes, read with a friend. I won't spoil the end, but as a resident of Chambersburg, I now avoid all creepy abandoned churches!!!
Scary as hell!

An ancient cult murdering church leaders in small town America. Ahh, this is what horror was meant to be. The book is well written, the characters are believable and enjoyable and the bad guys...these cult guys...are downright creepy. The author puts a very creative spin on this cult that goes way beyond simply making them an ancient sect (which they are) or casual snake handlers (which they are). I'm not going to reveal it here because it will ruin a "whoa" moment in the book. What's best about this book is that it's fun to read. It doesn't have any kind of agenda. It's not out to educate you on some boring subject disguised as fiction. It's a pure, unadulterated, run-for-your-life-they're-going-to-kill-us ride. The best horror is horror that entertains, and this, my friends, fits the bill.
