I agree with reviews that say that this book is funny and informative at the same time! It made me laugh on some sleepless nights! I got it from the library, but I think it would be a good reference book, so I am planning to buy it!
Helpful & Entertaining

Very informative. It gives both fact & opinion instead of portraying everything as just facts. (Which we all know can't possibly be true when discussing children) Of all the books I have read regarding pregnancy & baby, this one is the best.
A Must Have for New Moms

I ordered 3 different "baby's first year books", but this one was the best. This book addressed the "real life" situation in the baby's first year. Most books regarding baby care are set in a perfect world where everyone breastfeeds and all babies sleep all night. This one had testimonials from mothers - ones that made me laugh out loud at times. It is such a believable book and was what I looked forward to reading during my breastfeeding sessions with my little one. No mother would be disappointed in this book.
Well written

I enjoyed reading this book. I'm only in my 3rd trimester, so haven't had to put any advice to use yet, but the approach here is balanced and entertaining. I think it will be something that I refer back to often.
"A Handbook to Keep"

Before I had my children, I read a lot of baby books. After my children came along, I only had time to refer to the books when a need arose. The Babytalk Insider's Guide to Your Baby's First Year is good for both those who can read it straight through and those he need to use it as a reference tool. Babies poop, spit, pee, burp, cry, and have umbilical cords that fall off. However, they are so adorable. All these issues are addressed in The Babytalk Insider's Guide to Your Baby's First Year. To use pacifiers, bottles, and cribs is debatable. The pro and con of each is discussed. The health of mothers is often overlooked because of the cute, demanding baby. Postpartum bleeding, stitches, breast pain, and depression are addressed. Issues specific to adoption, twins, and special needs babies are mentioned. Little tips are given along the way. They are usually highlighted on the side of the text, so even sleep-deprived mothers will notice them. Wood and O'Callaghan are seasoned writers and mothers. They give such practical advice that includes medical facts and personal experience. Only seasoned mothers truly understand the importance of onesies and a robe. The fact is that motherhood can be enjoyed. There is nothing wrong with paper plates and pizza. There is nothing wrong with not coming out of your pajamas. Keep The Babytalk Insider's Guide to Your Baby's First Year nearby, take a nap with your baby, and enjoy your baby's development.
