Book Overview

After inheriting his title from his brother, the new margrave has two weeks to find a noble bride. What will happen when he learns he has fallen for a servant girl in disguise?

The Margrave of Thornbeck is under orders from the king to find a bride, fast. He invites ten noble born ladies who meet the king's approval to be his guests at Thornbeck Castle for two weeks, a time to test the ladies and reveal their true character. But one of the guests is not who she pretends to be . . . and not everyone in attendance is there with good intentions.

A commoner, Avelina has only two instructions: keep her true identity a secret and make sure the margrave doesn't select her as his bride. Since the latter seems unlikely, she concentrates on not getting caught. No one must know she is merely a maidservant, sent by the Earl of Plimmwald to stand in for his daughter, Dorothea.

Despite Avelina's best attempts at diverting attention from herself, the margrave has taken notice. And try as she might, she can't deny her own growing feelings. But something else is afoot in the castle. Something sinister that could have far worse--and far deadlier--consequences. Will there ever be a wedding at Thornbeck Castle?

Beautiful Pretender by Melanie Dickerson is a captivating entry in the Medieval Fairy Tale series, which also includes The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest, The Silent Songbird, and The Orphan's Wish. This enthralling series reimagines classic fairy tales in a vibrant medieval setting, and each book offers thoughtful discussion questions perfect for families seeking young adult literature that prompts deep conversations about faith. These engaging narratives, filled with adventure and romance, provide a meaningful exploration of faith and values.

Another Great Story by Melanie!

The Margrave of Thornbeck is forced to choose a bride, by the king. And fast. So he invites ladies from all over to come and stay at his castle for two weeks while he decides which one he chooses to marry. While the ladies are there his servants put them through a series of tests to find out their true character. Avelina is a ladies maid. But the woman she works for runs off with a knight, in the middle of the night. ;) Now she is made to go in Lady Dorothea's place in hopes to make friends with the Margrave so if her town, Plimmwald gets attack, the Margrave will help defend them. Avelina does her best to get the Margrave to notice her new friend, Lady Magdalen, but for some reason he seems to seek Avelina out. Not only that but someone is planning to kill the Margrave. Can Avelina stop it before its too late? And convince the Margrave not to marry her? I really enjoyed this story. It was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, along with Princess and the Pea. I loved Avelina but I must admit Thornbeck could be a bit thick headed at times. The whole story was really good and clean, with plenty of suspense and humor. Melanie Dickerson has a talent for making her characters seem so real, as if you know them and she brings you into the story within the first few pages, keeping you trapped till the end. This would be a good book for YA's as well as adults!
