I lost 20 pounds in approximately 3 weeks using the plunge program . I've maintained the weight loss for 5 years. Basicly, it teachs about nutrition, and how fats, sugars, and salts cause us to gain weight. By first totally cutting these items out of your diet, you begin to lose about 10 pounds in the first week. Then you gradually reintroduce them into your diet in small quantities. I don't know why this book went out of print. It's great!
