"The Bird Who Gave Milk" is a charming and witty fable. It comes from western Africa, and it is a part of the great tradition of African oral literature. It tells the story of a wondrous talking bird who promised to give its owner what he most wished for, and in so doing showed that it was the wish itself that was false. "The Bird Who Gave Milk" can be appreciated by anyone who enjoys a good story. The story is told by Tahira, a traditional storyteller, and it is dramatized using the African collection of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, in Philadelphia. Objects in the collection were specially chosen to suit the story by the Museum's Keeper of the African Collection, Dwaune D. Latimer. Music is composed by Baby Joseph Bryant and performed by Baby Joseph Bryant and Amma Agiriwah.
