Book Overview

Where were you when Diana died?

For Trevor Rees-Jones the answer is simple: he was in the same hospital as Diana, fighting for his own life a few rooms away. As bodyguard to her companion Dodi Fayed, he was with the couple when, hounded by paparazzi and with a driver who turned out to be drunk, their Mercedes crashed into the thirteenth pillar of the tunnel under the Place de l'Alma in Paris. Dodi and the driver, Henri Paul, died instantaneously, medics say; Diana was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors worked feverishly to resuscitate her before giving up in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Miraculously, Trevor survived. But his condition was critical -- internal chest injuries and a broken wrist were the least of it. His head had taken the brunt of the impact and suffered catastrophic damage; his face was crushed beyond recognition. In a stunning medical drama, however, a facial surgeon performed a miracle of reconstruction, and -- along with Trevor's own indomitable will and the support of his family and friends -- the bodyguard was able to leave hospital after just over a month. His goal then was straightforward: to return to a normal life as soon as possible, go back to work for his employer, Mohamed Al Fayed, and to the simple pleasures of rugby and his mates at home in Shropshire.

But the crash that nearly killed him had killed Diana, Princess of Wales, one of the most famous women of the late twentieth century. A normal life was no longer an option. And as Mohamed Al Fayed's grief at the loss of his son quickly turned into a desperate hunt for reasons, for culprits and conspiracy, Trevor found his unswerving loyalty to the Boss at first questioned and then, ultimately, destroyed, as Fayed pointed the finger of blame at him.

The Bodyguard's Story grippingly describes, for the first time, Trevor Rees-Jones's part in these astonishing events. From the prelude to Paris, when Trevor foun

A Must

I love the writing about all that happened before and after the crash and the tremendous suffering that Trevor and his family had gone through. This is a very detailed read. One of my favorite books.

The Bodyguard's Story

I enjoyed this book because it tells what the Princess was doing the last few weeks of her life right up to the crash. Trevor Rees-Jones was Dodi's bodyguard and was with them during most of their vacation time together. He tells in detail what it was like in the final weeks, right up to the moment they left the Ritz, just minutes before the crash. He doesn't remember anything after that, including the crash itself. His face was so seriously injured that his mother only recognized him by his legs. Days later his mother also had to break the news to him that he was the only survivor. Much of this book is about Trevor's life, and the events after the crash, including the many surgeries he had to go through, and the impact taking care of him had on his mother and stepfather, and finally the events that led up to his leaving the job he loved so much. There are several photo's also that include Diana and Dodi on holiday, Trevor before and after the crash, and of the crash itself.

The True story from the only survivour

11 years after the crash it was refreshing to read the true story by Trevor Rees Jones. All we heard of was conspiracy theories that I think we all wanted to believe. After reading Trevors story in my heart I now know it was just a tragic accident. Thank you Trevor

Simply Wonderful Trevor

This is a wonderful book written by an amazing person. It is a must read for anybody interested in Princess Diana or Trevor Rees-Jones himself. It not only talks about the events leading up to the crash, but also the struggle Trevor had to re-build his life. It is a heart warming story of a wonderful young man who had his life torn to pieces. One really feels for Trev. The physical injuries he received are devistating, but one gets the feeling that the emotional trauma far outweighed this. This book is written to tell Trev's side of the story, and yes, he does come across as a caring and honest person. One can only marvel at how well he came through the ordeal. I wish Trev every happiness for the future. May he now be able to live a happy and fulfilling life. This book really is a wonderful, heart-warming story that is well worth a read.

Very interesting reading

The bodyguard Trevor strikes me as having integrity in the way he dealt with this most famous event. I believe he is vindicated, in this honest account, from those who sought to twist the facts to propagate conspiracy theories. Some people just cannot accept the simple truth. Read for yourself and decide. It's well worth the read. May he now go back into obscurity and live out his life normally.

An enthralling read, an important book!

This fine book not only clears up alot of rumor and inaccuracies that still cloud Diana's death -- for example, Trevor was not wearing a seatbelt. But it goes far beyond the crash to tell an amazing and moving human story of Trevor and his family facing unbelievable pressures with rare courage and decency. I couldn't put it down!
