Reanimating a classic, Joan Walsh Anglund adds her beautiful line drawings to the timeless story of a young cowboy--a perfect gift for children. "Once there was a cowboy. He was strong and brave. He was not afraid of coyotes. He was not afraid of mountain lions. He was not afraid of ornery rustlers. . . ." --from The Brave Cowboy This adorable gift book for children features Joan's black and red line drawings on cream-colored stock. The red illustrations represent the brave cowboy's imaginary world of bandits, rattlesnakes, stagecoaches, and fair maidens. Joan's inspiration for the main character came from her son when he was about three years old.
This book captures and portrays how young (boy) adventurers use their imaginations in play. Simple text and detailed drawings. You'll enjoy reading this to a young boy.
Imagination and Courage

I love this book. It is absolutely my favorite book to sit down and read to my two young boys. Most children's books these days are fluff. They are some artist's attempt at showcasing their drawing or painting ability with a pointless story thrown in. But this one has meat, and my kids love it. It has real values and a sweet approach. I'm going to shop for other books by this author.

This is the perfect bedtime book for a little boy. It takes the reader through the day of a little boy playing at being a cowboy. Right through to bedtime. It's just gorgeous.
Great book for yourself and the kids.

This is an exciting book to read and enjoy with your kids. My son and I read this book and looked at the wonderful pictures. It was a great afternoon of fun to see the imagination of my son growing along with the imagination of the little cowboy.

I have the 1959 first edition, and it has seen better days. It was read nearly every day and now my children love it too! It is 19 pages and a joy to read. All about a little boy that pretends he's a cowboy. Just a sweet story by a beloved author and illustrator.
