Originally published in Edinburgh in 1858 as "The Messiah's Service," Thomas Hughes Milner covers the doctrinal area of ecclesiology or "church truth" from first to last. This is the Christian ministry, and it is likely you won't recognize it compared against what is practiced in the institutional churches. Pagan Christianity? Certainly. "The Christian Ministry According to the Apostles" is predicated on 1) practical application of the priesthood of believers, 2) all believers are ministers with spiritual gifts, and 3) the Lord's words, "Ye are all brethren." The result is liberty of ministry as against "liturgies," "orders of service," and "preplanned worship." This is teaching that is never taught in the churches for the reason that it would spell the demise of the clergy system, which neither "the laity" nor "the clergy" desires.
