Ann Perlman's "The Christmas Cookie Club" is a wonderful book about women's friendships, life's struggles & joys, and the powerful connections women develop with each other and with food. I love Ann's story telling and the wonderful message that her books include. This book does celbrate the courage and joy in spite of hard times and honoring the importance of women's friendship. It is a perfect book to inspire you for the holidays and new year. I can't wait for the sequel to learn more about these women and their lifes. I also made eight of the cookie recipes and they are delicious. JuneThe Christmas Cookie Club: A Novel
Somewhat Predictable But Entertaining

This is one of those books that you will probably see yourself and/or some of your friends and family in the characters. A group of friends, traditions, ups and downs, friends helping friends... with cookies and life... Don't look for anything deep or new here. Just read and enjoy and when you're done, pass it on to one of your girlfriends... maybe with a batch of homemade cookies.
What a great start to a cookie filled Holiday season!

I picked up this book with the intent to get myself into the Holiday spirit after a year filled with curveball after curveball. This book lived up to the promise I had for it! Not only am in the Holiday spirit, but now I am wanting to bake cookies, play some christmas music and start my only Christmas Cookie Club. The festive holiday cheer of the book made my heart happy. The friendships in the book made me think and cherish all of the close friendships I have. The tough times and heartfelt memories these women shared made me shed a tear and feel for them, as if they were my own friends. Maybe thats because all 10 women were easy to relate to, therefore, I put my friends and myself in their shoes. A GREAT holiday read and very easy to get thru. It only took me about 6 full hours to get thru the entire thing. The author keeps you reading by keeping you wondering what each women's story is and why she acts and is the way she is today because of it. I'd recommend this to anybody looking to get in the Holiday spirit and looking for a good latte and cold afternoon read. Oh and of course, a copy of this book with be included with my Christmas Cookie Club invitations to my closest friends :)
Warm story of women opening their hearts to each other

As Marnie gets ready to host the annual Christmas Cookie Club, she talks on the phone with her daughter, who is awaiting the results of tests done to determine the health of her unborn baby. She should learn the results of the tests by the evenings end.Marnie is hosting the cookie party as she has for many years now, expecting her twelve closest friends to spend the evening with her. As the women gather and the cookie sharing begins, so does the sharing of stories. As each woman talks about the cookies she brought, she also talks about what has happened in her life the previous year. These women laugh and cry together, supporting each other through the telling of each of their stories. It has been a hard year for some of the twelve, and they draw strength from each other as they tell their tales of love, loss, heartache and joy. Through the night, Marnie thinks about her daughter, waiting and hoping for a phone call with good news. This is the best way for Marnie to spend this important night, surrounded by these women with whom she shares such a bond. What a warm wonderful party, women gathered together to love and support each other. Finishing this book left me thinking of all of the beautiful women in my life. I think there will be many Christmas cookie clubs started by this book. There were also yummy recipes for cookies, and I will definitely be trying out some of them this Christmas.
