What a gem this 1979 book is for anyone truly interested in Frederic Remington. This book represents "the first complete collection of published writings of America's famous artist of the American West." Theodore Roosevelt tagged Remington as the best of American painters of the west at the turn of the 20th century. A case can be made that he still is exactly that. Included within the book are 140 illustrations, drawings, sketches, and paintings. Beyond the magazine articles for Harper's Weekly, Harper's Monthly, Colliers, Outing, Century, and McClure's two other much longer works bordering on novels are included: JOHN ERMINE OF THE YELLOWSTONE, and THE WAY OF AN INDIAN. Close to one quarter of Remington's works were done to illustrate his written works, and many appear within the covers of this 649 page volume. Even to this day, a debt of thanks is due to the editors of this unique book, Peggy and Harold Samuels. Work such as they have done benefits those of us who admire Frederick Remington's 'west'. Both enjoyable and recommendable. Semper Fi.
