This guide teaches the reader how to play golf by taking them step-by-step through the fundamentals of the game. It includes how to drive the ball for distance, choose the right clubs for each shot, use the right grip, play trouble shots, and it has icons for highlighting important features.
For a novice such as myself, I was astounded at what this book could teach me. From grip to stance to swing to rules, every page was entertaining and/or relevant.

I purchased this book to learn enough about golf to play a game with my boss. This book and a couple hours practice did the trick. It taught me all the golf specific jargon, the rules, and the basics of proper swing and form. Whether you want to play like a pro, or just play well enough to keep from looking like a fool, this is a perfect starting place.

Fantastic beginner's guide

I bought this book after walking away unhappy with "Golf for Dummies" (2nd ed.). This book is so much better, because it focuses on things a beginner golfer needs to know, instead of trivia we don't really care about. After reading this book I have improved my swing and hit as well as picked out a good club set with the help of the chapter on clubs. I'll read this book over and over again as I become hooked on golf.
A great intro to golf for those who are just learning.

While Michelle McGann comes across well in this publication, much of the credit should go to her ghost writer who seems to have done an excellent job in translating a pro's techniques into layman's terms. This is a good book which is a valuable learning tool for those who are just being introduced to the sport. Subjects are discussed in a very simple, concise way, and at no times does the author speak to the reader in a condescending way. A great read.
