Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. or better known as John Denver was born in Roswell, New Mexico on December 31, 1943. At the age of 12 a gift from his grandmother of a 1910 Gibson guitar sparked an interest in music that would eventually take John all the way to the top. John mentioned in an Australian interview that this guitar was also one his grandmother herself had played as a child. With record sales of over 35 million+ units he is one of the best selling recording artists of all time. He was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the 1970s and one of the five top-selling recording artists in music history. He was also among one of the best songwriters of his time. Along the way John also tried his hand at acting and appeared in several films and televisions programs. Sadly John Denver died at age 53 on October 12, 1997 due to blunt-force injuries sustained in a crash of his Rutan Long-EZ Tandem 2-seater aircraft in Monterey Bay near Pacific Grove, California. He left behind a catalog of music still being listened to today.
