The Devil's Playground (Morgan Kingsley, Book 5)

Very spicy- this series is jam packed with characters, but the intrigues make it easy to follow along.

I've read most of the Morgan Kingsley series (I think I missed the book before this one) and have enjoyed them. 'The Devil's Playground' seemed to be a step up from the overall impression of the others, with more characterisation, an interesting plot and none of the S & M which spoiled the first book for me. Morgan is still hosting the King of Demons, Lugh, whilst the Demon Council try to work out how to defeat Dougal, Lugh's brother and pretender to the throne. These supernatural political manoeuvres are interspersed with human stories such as Morgan's relationship with Brian, Adam and Dom and Dom's new restaurant business, Demon Raphael and his former host Andy, and more. When reading this series you can never tell where the story is going to go and that makes it a far more enjoyable ride. With this book I felt that Morgan was beginning to become a more rounded person and, for this reader at least, more appealing. Lugh is also developing more of a shape and his interactions with Morgan are interesting. Those who liked the previous books in the series will obviously enjoy this one, and I think there are enough explanations in this book for those new to the series to be able to follow what's going on. I strongly recommend you read the previous books in this series (Devil Inside, The Devil You Know, The Devil's Due and Speak of the Devil) prior to reading this book. The basis for my review is pure entertainment factor alone. At last the Morgan Kingsley's journey has come to an end. IMO this was the best of book in the series. Morgan had such a huge transformation in this installment. She's gone from pig headed and irritating to only marginally annoying. I'm really going to miss Lou, he was a class act unlike Brian who was just as annoying as Morgan. I've always loved the creativity and originality of this series and overall, I am very pleased that the series ended on a high-note, instead of going on forever. If Jenna black were to release more Morgan Kingsley books in the future, I would definitely read them. Morgan Kingsley is the best and strongest known exorcist around. Trust is the key to the latest superb Kingsley urban fantasy as the heroine distrusts everyone except to e a degree Brian and she has no choice with Lugh. The monarch has to rely on the obstinate Morgan to do the right thing for both of them. With betrayal everywhere, Kingsley and Lugh know no one has their back to the delight of fans of this excellent saga as the overarching devilish theme moves forward (except when the heroine pukes in a toilet due to control shifts) to the anticipated war of the brothers.
