In the bowels of a super-secret bio-weapons lab in Maryland, doom in its most insidious form is being refined. They told USC grad student Stacy Richardson that the death of her noted microbiologist husband was suicide, but nothing will convince her of that. Now only her own death will keep her from the truth... They told "Lucky" Cunningham he was doing his patriotic duty, but not about the terrible plague he was bringing home with him from the war. Now, with nothing more in his life to lose, he's riding the rails across America--straight into the heart of a nightmare too horrifying to contemplate... White supremacist Reverand Fannon Kincaid told his hobo acolytes that one day their racial "enemies" would perish. Now he holds in his possession the unthinkable means to an unspeakable end... Civilization's final drama is about to unfold--as busy hands construct doomsday at... The Devil's Workshop
The Devils Workshop is my all time favorite book. It ties together so many different subjects: science, love, action... It's so easy to get hooked on, I've read it at least ten times...and I'm still not bored of it. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who loves to get lost in the action and emotion of a great book.

This book was TERRIFIC! I finished it in one sitting. Great and likeable characters; a real page-turner!

I love Cannell's books but his latest is really different and inteligent in its plot. He gets you on the first page and never lets go! Also his hero and heroine are not the usual-reporter-cop type.
Stephen Canell--I love you

Here's to a woman whose husband supposedly committed suicide...a woman who investigates. A woman who challenges the U.S. government. Here's to hobos on the tracks.
Totally absorbing

Her beloved husband Max was working on a special project at Fort Detrick when USC doctorate student Stacy Richardson faced the Quals board. However, her sister-in-law Joanne interrupts Stacey's efforts to move one major step closer to obtaining her Ph.D. when she arrives to inform her that Max committed suicide. A stunned Stacy refuses to accept the Army position that Max killed himself. Stacy and Joanne fly to Maryland to claim the body and to learn the truth. The first she learns from post commander Colonel Chittick is that the Army cremated Max, based on his request. Stacy feels that the Army is hiding something from them and soon realizes someone murdered her spouse. The trail takes her to a prison in Texas where illegal experiments in biological warfare are going on that soon goes awry, causing dangerous havoc, insanity, and death. As Stacy continues her inquires, the Army tries to work a massive cover-up while a religious fanatic plans to gain control of the weapon in order to start an ethnic cleansing campaign that rivals that of Pot and Hitler. DEVIL'S WORKSHOP proves the depth of talent that author and TV producer Stephen J. Cannell possesses. The story line never gives readers a moment to catch their breath as the suspense and accompanying tension mount to extraordinary levels. However, the characters are the key to the tale as the military leaders, especially Fort Detrick Base Commander Rear Admiral Zoll strongly feel they are doing the right thing even if its' is illegal and unauthorized. Fans of doomsday thrillers will take much pleasure from Mr.Cannell's newest novel.Harriet Klausner
