The Dish helped me...finally...learn what nutrition was really about. NOT about all the foods I can't eat, but what I should be adding to my diet. The recipes are easy and tasty and really pretty to make. There's even a chapter on what to drink and what to eat at airports and restaurants. The Dish helps me even when I leave my home kitchen...and truthfully, away from home is where I make the most food choices. It's The Dish on real life nutrition.
I've Eaten Chocolate with Densie and Carolyn!

It's true. I've got the dirt on these dish divas. And, they're just like you and me. They like to eat! That's what makes their book so absolutely real. If you've read French Women Don't Get Fat and wondered what to do besides eating your weight in leek soup and homemade yogurt, this is the book for you. It's a purely American look at how you, with a few tricks and tweaks, can eat and live well and not be diet-obsessed. I've only bought two diet books in my life. One is Susan Estrich's Making the Case for Yourself: A Diet Book for Smart Women and the other is The Dish. My point is that I think before I spend money on a diet book, and so should you. We all know that fad diets don't work, and we're sick of depriving ourselves for a short-term weight loss. The Dish is a handy reference and brightly written resource with everyday strategies for the long haul. I've known Densie since we went on our first double date together in eighth grade, and I call her all the time for nutrition advice. Now, everyone else gets to tap the same resource. That's only fair, I guess, since she has a Ph.D. in nutrition and is a noted expert. And, I promise, although she likes chocolate as much as the next person (read that me), she practices what she preaches! -DW, Ph.D.

This fun book will tell you more about how to eat healthy and be healthy than most textbooks....BUT, you will LOVE reading it. It's that fun. (If you don't believe that, check out the recipe for "Accessorizing Your Breasts" and the wine tip titled "Pinot Envy.") The best part is that the book is mostly short blurbs, charts and lists, so you can flip through and read any pages at your leisure, in any order. My favorite parts of the book are the frequent asides labeled "Densie Says" and "Carolyn Says" which put a personal spin on what the authors really think and honest insights into how they incorporate good nutrition and good food into their own lifestyles. In short, the writing is fun to read and the wealth of information is priceless. I bought four books as gifts for my sisters and niece--what a great gift this book makes!

Finally a book that makes sense and has real world application! It is so fun and easy to read - I could hardly put it down. I can relate to the information in the book and actually put it to good use - my kitchen makeover is almost complete! All of my bridesmaids are getting a copy too.
