Fans of Elephant & Piggie will love this hilarious beginning reader with a surprise ending. Is anyone brave enough to face THE DOGHOUSE? Mouse, Pig, Cow, and Duck are playing a carefree game of ball... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Not quite the sweet spot for my very young toddler as What Will Fat Cat Sit On? is, but my toddler likes this story, too. I think the book will make more sense to him when he is a little bit older. He has loved the What Will Fat Cat Sit On? story by Thomas since he was only a few months old, the words and pictures both catching his eye.
Great book for little kids

Jan Thomas' The Doghouse will delight young readers. We all know that kids pick their books by the cover. This book makes it off the shelf with large, bright images on the cover. The bright simple images are consistent throughout the book, and the story is quick and amusing with a fun surprise at the end. Having just a few words on each page keeps early readers confident. The suspense and altogether great story keep already confident readers from thinking it is "too easy to bother with." Even the youngest kids will have fun guessing what is going on in The Doghouse. I think this might be a fun storytime book near Halloween, although it is great year-round.
Teachers for Jan Thomas!

I am a multi-decade teacher, currently in special education. ALL of my students love Jan Thomas's books, and The Doghouse is a particular hit. I teach children in every grade of our K-8 charter school, and The Doghouse is the most popular book in my classroom library and among the most popular in our school library. I think Jan's special gift is that her books are accessible to all, and her humor never talks down to her reader. Instead, she carries us all along for the ride and eager for the next book. (Disclaimer: I must confess that it is my privilege to know Jan, but her message is universal.)
Great, first books for begining readers

My son got the book "What will Fat Cat Sit On" last year and loved it, so I was happy to find more books by Jan Thomas. This story is amusing and has only a few words per page, which makes it a great book for begining readers. Anything book that my son WANTS to read to me, I endorse enthusiastically!
Instant hit!

We bought this for our 18 month old yesterday, and have read it to her at least 15 times in the last 24 hours! She keeps asking for it over and over, and everytime, she is very worried, and then relieved at the end. We heard this at storytime and bought it right after on 8/25, so I'm guessing it was released early? Great news for us, because she hasn't gotten tired of the story yet. And surprisingly, neither have we! The illustrations are just adorable and the story is very clever. It makes me laugh every time, and that is definitely what drew me to the book when we heard it. And look at the illustrations closely - they are also very clever. There is one where they are wondering who is going to go into the doghouse next, and everyone is pointing at Pig, who is looking out at the reader as if to say "Yes, who?" Turns out it's Pig! I hope you enjoy this as much as we have so far!
