The Doubting Snake is an exciting and funny adventure novel that takes place in the Central American Jungles. It allows the reader to see through the eyes of the Indian people and to understand their relationship to the land. The lush, vivid descriptions of the jungle bring the reader right into each scene. This novel attempts to answer the following questions: If power in our society is concentrated in governments, religious organizations and corporations, then what hope does the ordinary citizen have to gain power in his life? Do simple, nature-oriented societies have the right to maintain their lifestyles and their land if their land is desired by modern society for its resources? Are such simple societies inherently inferior to ours? How can we bring about positive change without violence? This novel has a heavy ecological message. The ability to protect and restore nature depends on the ability to restore our own individual natural way of life and how that affects our health, our enjoyment of life and our interpersonal relationships. Even with the depth of message, this novel is also just a fun, easy-read, action packed adventure.
