In this fable, a cantankerous duck and a grumpy owl square off over the right way to eat, the right time to sleep, and the right place to perch. Neither think the other is right about anything, and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The Duck and the Owl is a wonderfully illustrated book (except for the one picture on "but he was happy the duck thought his wings were beautiful -- the owl's legs look like dog legs, but then I guess talons with feathery tufts sticking out would be too scary for kids). The story itself comes off as a little too repetitive in its translation. Maybe I'm just being picky. Okay, I am. It's still a wonderful book about understanding differences. Overall, I enjoyed this book which is why I'm givng it four stars.

Black and white illustrations in children's books rarely receive attention because kids are so color-oriented - but it would be a shame to spurn Kathi Bhend's gorgeous drawings or Hanna Johansen's story in the lovely Duck And The Owl, which sports delicate line drawings to accompany a fable about a cantankerous duck and a grumpy owl who have many different view of life. The conversations between the two are hilarious and kids will be delighted; especially those who can enjoy via parental read-aloud.
A Great Little Book

This is a great little book about tolerance...It has very amusing text that young and old will enjoy and beautiful illustrations. I found it in the library, and I'm buying it for my sister to share with her second grade class. My eleven-year-old daughter thought it was a gem as well. Highly recommended!
