No, they are not all in here - but I have found some that I could not find elsewhere. After a 6 page introduction which provides an interesting overview of ships from the earliest known examples to the latest technology, this book becomes a true encyclopedia. Individual ships or class of ship from all over the world are set out in alphabetical order commencing with the British submarine A1 and concluding with the Japanese aircraft carrier Zuikaku. The vessels are listed 4 or 5 to a page. Each entry comprises a colour profile painting of the ship with a text which includes the technical details and a brief history of specific ships or an historical overview for ship types. There are over 1200 ships listed in this book with illustrations of some long-forgotten vessels included. I have found several interesting entries and, overall, have come to regard this book as a excellent starting point before going on to further research. NM

_This is a really fascinating and useful one-volume identification guide to all types (or at least most types) of ships, of all nations, throughout history (though the vast majority are from the 19th and 20th centuries.) There are over 1200 individual ships listed in alphabetical order. In addition, the two indexes in the back cross-reference the entries by nationality and type of vessel. _Each entry gives you vessel type, displacement, dimensions (English and Metric), machinery (engines), top speed, Launch date, main armament and armor (if any.) In addition there is an excellent color identification profile for each vessel with a brief descriptive and historical blurb. _As for vessel types you have: aircraft carriers, amphibious assault ships, battle cruisers, battleships, blockade runners, bulk carriers, cable layers, cargo vessels, coastal defense vessels, commerce raiders, container ships, corvettes, cruise ships, cruisers, deep sea exploration and recovery ships, dispatch boats, destroyers, escort vessels, exploration and research vessels, fast attack craft, ferries, frigates, gunboats, helicopter carriers, hospital ships, hovercraft, hydrofoils, ironclads, lightships, liners, merchant sailing vessels, mine warfare vessels, monitors, paddle wheelers, patrol vessels, sailing warships, salvage vessels, submarines, survey ships, tankers, torpedo boats, tugs, yachts, etc. _My sole criticism of this volume is that it would have been so convenient for them to include a section of national flags and naval ensigns as an appendix.
