The End of Print is the first collection of the work of David Carson, arguably the most innovative and influential graphic designer of the 1990s. Carson's layered, challenging approach to typography has earned him an international reputation. At the cutting edge, he continually reinvents the relationship between design and type and has single-handedly changed the course of graphic design. A former professional surfer, sociology teacher and now art director of Ray Gun magazine, Carson has crystallized the look and attitude of an entire generation and leads a revolution in visual communication. In just a few years, he has acquired a cult following of young designers eager to break with tradition and forge a new aesthetic.
This is a great book that shows the examples of one of the most influential designers today. David Carson's design show how he breaks the rules of typography and design using his deconstructive design. Because he break the rules I would not recommend this book to a beginner. It is more geared towards some one who has already learned the basics of design and looking for inpsiration. I found that out the hardway.

I cant tell you how many times I return to this book for idea generation. "Dirty" design at its best. This book is better than the sequel but both are worth the investment.

This book inspired me to try new techniques with typography and is a must for any modern designer! The book contains a lot of David Carson's early work as well as some really great ads for Ray Gun Magazine. I definately recommend picking this one up just to view such innovative work!
Must have for any serious designer

While many people consider David Carson's work far too "outrageous" for mainstream corporate design, his influence cannot be underestimated. This book will, if nothing else, inspire you to re-examine all the projects you have in-house. And, if you are like me, cause you to "push" the envelope" on your next project. I cannot recommend it highly enough
