Reading a book of reviews is an odd experience. Many of the works reviewed here were then contemporary novels and biographies which have since faded from popular knowledge. One is more interested in what Virginia Woolf had to say about these books than the books themselves. Admittedly, Woolf's writing style was more straight-forward journalistic than the ingenious panache of later years. However, scattered here and there were gems of literary flair which showcased the writer's maturing voice. As a glimpse of Virginia Woolf before her fame, this is a worthwhile collection.
