Book Overview

THE GREATEST STORY NEVER TOLD A POLITICAL RIVALRY THAT ENDED IN TWO EXECUTIONSAN INTRICATE LOVE TRIANGLE THAT ALTERED THE COURSE OF HISTORYA RELIGIOUS REVOLUTION THAT CHANGED THE WORLDTwo thousand years ago, Mary Magdalene hid a set of scrolls in the rocky foothills of the French Pyrenees, a gospel that contained her own version of the events and characters of the New Testament. Protected by supernatural forces, these sacred scrolls could be uncovered only by a special seeker, one who fulfills the ancient prophecy of l'attendue -- The Expected One.When journalist Maureen Pascal begins the research for a new book, she has no idea that she is stepping into an ancient mystery so secret, so revolutionary, that thousands of people have killed and died for it. She becomes deeply immersed in the mystical cultures of southwest France as the eerie prophecy of The Expected One casts a shadow over her life and work and a long-buried family secret comes to light.Maureen's extraordinary journey takes her from the dusty streets of Jerusalem to the cathedrals of Paris . . . and ultimately to search for the scrolls themselves. She must unravel clues that link history's great artistic masters, including Sandro Botticelli, Nicolas Poussin, and Jean Cocteau; the Medici, Bourbon, and Borgia dynasties; and great scientific minds like Leonardo da Vinci and Isaac Newton. Ultimately, she, and the reader, come face-to-face with Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist, Judas, and Salome in the pages of a deeply moving and powerful new gospel, the life of Jesus as told by Mary Magdalene.

I adored this book!

I am not a professional critic, nor an historian, and you won't find me writing any other reviews even though I am a voracious reader. But this is too important and very meaningful to me and potentially to others who decide whether to read Kathleen McGowan's books. This is the first book I have ever read that caused me to get goose bumps. It comes down to whether the words and ideas resonate with your heart or not. If...

I thoroughly enjoyed this...

When I first picked it up, I thought it was just another one of those Da Vinci code wannabes. I'll have to admit though that I loved the more "magical" (for lack of a better word) approach this book took. There was still the intelligent combination of history and religion...but it had this really emotional/spiritual approach that I enjoyed. I loved how the current events of maureen was interwoven with the "true story" of...

A great debut to what will hopefully be a great series!

After reading 'THE DAVINCI CODE' a few years ago I became very interested in the various theories surrounding the relationship between Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. However, with the emergence of so many religious thrillers I was a bit wary when I received 'THE EXPECTED ONE'in the mail. I did not want to read a 'DAVINCI CODE' clone, but the premise sounded interesting so I decided to go ahead and read it, and to my surprise...

A wonderful read!

This book is absolutely wonderful in this new age of bringing hidden truths into the open. For someone who likes a good novel, simply for a good read, its great. For those whom like to consider alternative truths, its great. An all around great read, whatever your personal truth is. I picked it up and absolutely could not put it down.

Wonderfully Entertaining!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would not presume to know the truth or fiction of the premise, to me it was irrelevant. However reviewed as a novel (fictional), it was well written, entertaining and thought provoking. I loved reading it and am looking forward to the next book in the story line.
