This book was turned into a movie and I tried many times to catch it but sorely could not get it on my radar. I would have like to see the movie to see how they put their twist on this saga. Absolutely, there is too much preaching going on here. They preach in one paragraph and in the next sentence or paragraph they are talking about carnal desires. This is so hypocritical. While, we know that churches and ministers sometimes fall short of their calling, this one is way over the top.
The Wilson family is so dysfunctional. The pastor is sleeping with one of the members while his wife sits back and condemns it but will not speak up and try to change the situation and the reflection that it might have on the congregation. The pastor is overcome with power, money and greed and allows nothing to stand in his way of reaching the top. The 2 sons (Camden and Blaine) are as different as night and day. Blaine is so much like his father and will go to any length to bed anything wearing a skirt while stuffing his pockets with riches. However, his brother, Camden is the most talented and levelheaded one who is always trying to do the right thing. As the drama unfolds and the pastor dismisses Camden from the church, something happens to bring the pastor and Blaine down to earth. They both realized that they had to pay for their sins because you don't play with God and think you can walk the straight and narrow. I felt so sorry for Dawn, but she had to lie in the bed that she created but, in the end, she got her revenge. Things family turned around for Camden to make his life bountiful. The book dragged on for too long but the last 50 pages finally got interesting and allow the story to fold.
