The author/illustrator is clearly talented and skilled, but puts a dark spin on what is a joyful event. The characters almost look evil, including a rather satanic representation of the angel Gabriel. The text is good, and taken out of the bible, but the illustrations are not matching of the period, and one is disturbing (child being chased down by Herod's soliders on horseback with swords drawn). It is a shame, because this could have been a wonderful book.
