I recommend the book "The First Forest" written by John Gile. The story explains how greed is not good and it caused fighting among the trees. The story also explains how and why the evergreen trees got their name and why they are green year round.
The Greedy Tree

I recommend this book just for the poetic beauty alone. It rhymes and has a rhythm that's probably metered. The illustrations are striking and you'll look forward to the colorful trees and the stark, bare, greedy trees.

...This book is interesting and enjoyable for children in third grade like me. It gives a reason why some trees lose their leaves and others don't. I liked the pictures. One showing the roots of a tree had lots of details. Some were very colorful. They helped me understand what I read. You should read this book!

I like the story because it talks about trees and seasons. I strongly recommend the book to all ages specially for upper grades.. The Tree Maker was sad at the greedy fight. This shows how selfishness hurts others.
My favorite childrens book & my kids know it!

This book tells about the first forest and how wonderful and unique all the trees were until some became selfish. The trees were forgiven for their greed but their punishment was that they would lose their leaves every fall and the others would remain green all year. Evergreens are now a constant reminder to us about how hurtful selfishness and greed can be. I love this book
