Frightened, Hungry, and Hopeless

Vernon Brewer, founder and president of World Help, writes from a heart of compassion with a vision of miracle magnitude. In "The Forgotten Children of the World" Brewer calls on the Christian Church to join in reaching out to provide, hope, healing and freedom for the children of Northern Uganda. These children have been slaughtered, raped, abducted, orphaned, and terrorized. World Help has partnered with Alex Mitala, chief overseer of an entire denomination of 10,000 churches, their pastors, and individual Christians, to carry out the vision of establishing Good Samaritan Children's Homes to feed, shelter, clothe, and provide medical help to these traumatized children. Brewer reports that nearly 2.4 million children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. Others have lost family members to the rebels, malaria, starvation, and typhoid. Many of these children suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorders. World Help has joined other agencies of the International community to bring a public awareness of the plight of these children to the concerned citizens of the world. Thousand of children have a story to tell that will break your heart. Vernon shares stories and interviews with, Jack, Grace, Moses, Jennifer, Maurice, Christine, and other representative individuals to illustrate the depth of suffering, physical, and emotional, that these children have and are experiencing. Their stories are shocking, touching, and moving, awakening in the reader the need to help, a need to take action. While in Uganda Brewer met with a group of indigenous pastors to plan a strategy for meeting the need, beginning with one child at a time. A plan for establishing Children's Centers is detailed in the book. These centers would each provide the needs of approximately fifty of the neediest children allowing them to continue to be a part of their families or extended families while having the benefits of a variety of resources. Miracles are taking place daily as ten Good Samaritan Children's Centers have already been opened. New stories are now coming back to World Help, as Anna, Patrick and Elizabeth tell of help and hope received through this ministry. Vernon Brewer's compassionate story of "The Forgotten Children" is an unforgettable call to prayer and response to an unfathomable
