This adorable story, which has intricatly detailed drawings, is certain to enthrall both adults and young readers. It is a perfect gift for youngsters under age 5 - a book of which children and adults don't seem to tire. Our daughters first read this book nearly 30 years ago, and they still have their original copy, which is now tattered with age and use; it was a dearly loved book.

I had been searching for this book for over 5 years. I was overjoyed when I found out it was being re-released, and in perfect timing, I just had my first daughter. I look forward to reading and rereading it to her for years to come. The illustrations in this book are magical.

This was my daughter's favorite book 20 years ago. Now I have a 3 1/2 yr. old granddaughter who will love it too! A big thanks to Random House for reprinting it!
One of the greatest children's books of all time

I received this book as a gift when I was about 8 years old. I don't know what happened to the book and I have been searching for another copy for about 10 years so that I can read it to my children. It is definitely among my all time favorite children's book and I am overjoyed that it is back in print. The book emphasizes the importance of family and tradition and it is highly comforting - an excellent bedtime story.
