The Fractured Mate

Enslaved by aliens, Paisley is forced to work on an ancient wrecker starship. She knows she must keep her head down and her behavior humble in order to survive.

When the crew responds to an automated distress call from an Akrellian warship that shouldn't be malfunctioning, she senses a threat but knows that no one will listen to her warnings.

As the rescued passengers of the distressed ship bring an Iriduan on board the wrecker in shackles and chains, Paisley senses the danger he poses to them all-and the opportunity he presents to her.

They're both captives, but the darkness in the Iriduan's eyes tells her that he might actually belong in those shackles, so, when he offers to free her from her own slave collar if she helps him escape, she fears she could end up unleashing a monster upon the galaxy by accepting.

Paisley isn't sure who to trust when everyone around her is terrible, but Halian is the only monster offering to set her free.
Is he really the villain they say he is? If so, she probably shouldn't feel so drawn to him.
