The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three half brothers in line for the throne are killed in an "accident," he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir. Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment. Surrounded by sycophants eager to curry favor with the na?ve new emperor, and overwhelmed by the burdens of his new life, he can trust nobody. Amid the swirl of plots to depose him, offers of arranged marriages, and the specter of the unknown conspirators who lurk in the shadows, he must quickly adjust to life as the Goblin Emperor. All the while, he is alone, and trying to find even a single friend . . . and hoping for the possibility of romance, yet also vigilant against the unseen enemies that threaten him, lest he lose his throne-or his life. Within THE CHRONICLES OF OSRETHThe Goblin Emperor The Cemeteries of Amalo trilogy The Witness for the Dead The Grief of Stones The Tomb of Dragons
well paced with interesting characters. it was gripping while also giving you room to breathe and sit with the story. i really enjoyed maia's journey and oh gee just thinking about how the pronouns affected the tension makes me wish i could read this book for the first time again. i genuinely tried to figure out the story while it was going on and was pleasantly surprised by some of the turns. *ALTHO* it is a slower paced book with very little action in comparison to some fantasy books, consider that and set your expectations to were they should be. this isn't going to be filled with nights fighting dragons it is a lad plopped into a fate he never expected and now has so mucb to learn

I'm starting to see a theme in my reading...
I bought this book without knowing what it was about, or who the author was. At first it was such an amazing world, such a depth of imagination in front of me, it was like jumping into a pool. That moment with the water sucks you down and pours over you all at once. You're emersed- but you need to swim.
All that to say, I took a fairly long time to read this book. I'm reminded of that famous quote, "Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly." (Francis Bacon)
This was one which was so rich in its own culture, history, and details that I had to take bites and chew thoroughly to digest it. And it was worth it.
The type of amazing world contained in this book, with it's vastness, honestly reminded me of Tolkien. And I don't say that often.
So, if you're wanting to lose yourself or need an escape, I highly recommend this book.
10/10 recommend

I never thought I would be so interested in the minutiae of running a kingdom, but this book proved me wrong. Very well written!
