The Good Wolf: Workshop Edition

What is a Workshop Edition?
Although most recreational readers will enjoy The Good Wolf as it is featured in this edition, it is actually the required textbook for writers and editors wanting to develop not only their craft, but also build new roads to monetize their skills and talents in the ever-evolving world of both traditional and self-publishing.

A majority of workshop participants enroll simply to learn the finer details and techniques that will help their own work shine, but they are also hesitant to share their manuscripts, or have yet to start writing their first novel, which is perfectly fine, because we understand how daunting a writer's journey can be, let alone, the basic concern of who you can trust with your original work.

That is why participants learn from, and work with, the same first draft of The Good Wolf in order to apply the lessons that are taught each week through a variety of methods, including ZOOM class instruction, small group collaborative exercises, and individual assignments, somewhat akin to homework, but without the pressure of grades.

By the end of the course, each participant that has completed his or her own edited version of The Good Wolf will not only be invited to join our nationwide network of free-lance editors, but they will also receive "limited publishing rights" to their version.

The Writer: While earning his creative writing degree at the University of Illinois, Mike Matthews was named a 1995 James Fellowship Semi-finalist for a Novel in Progress for his literary piece, In the Garden. Since then, Mike has embraced his passion for combining creative fiction and non-fiction based on people he has encountered during his travels, and is known for weaving the intricacies of tragic love and desperate hope into a kaleidoscope of adult literature.

The Windy City Writers Club: While in high school, Mike founded the original Windy City Writers Club in 1984 for the sole purpose of bringing together other writers committed to the craft. Today, there are over 30 WCWC nationwide that embrace their mission of discovering and developing talent through various writing contests and other services.

The Publisher: In 2004, Mike lost a dear friend and an original WCWC member. Recognizing life is too short, Mike retired from corporate America and launched North Avenue Publishing. Since then, NAP has released a variety of anthologies composed of winning contest submissions and works by individuals.

The Philanthropist: Aside from fees paid directly to NAP's nationwide network of editors, proceeds are often used to fund a variety of Young Author Contests.

The Legacy: NAP serves as the main conduit to the Windy City Writers Club legacy by printing limited runs of anthologies that are donated to libraries and shelters across the country. Each publication inscribed with the original motto, "Fear not for you are not alone, but are loved and understood as much as you love and understand."
