A work of historical fiction recounting the adventures of Matthew of Cologne in the newly established Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem. The Great Crusade was finished in 1099 A.D. and Lord Godfrey of Bouillon became the regent. After his death, his brother Baldwin I became King of Jerusalem. He was later succeeded by their cousin who took the name of Baldwin II. Matthew served under all three men. His devotion and commitment to the Christian cause drew him to another Knight in Jerusalem, Hugh De Payans. Together they began to discuss the creation of a religious order of military men, which would later become the Knights Templar. The Hammer of God describes the life of Matthew of Cologne leading up to the founding of the Templars. A previous volume, "Jihad 1095 A.D. The Great Crusade" described the journey Matthew took on his way to Jerusalem.
