Ive been reading this series a little out of sink so, ive been trying to purchase them and set them aside to read in order. Im getting antsy and its hard not to read them as they come in. I realize there not fact but they are delightful McCarty has this series well in hand and the story lines are Interwoven amongst each book a little bit but each book still maintains its own story. Fantastic story teller. Ive started getting some of her orher works and i think ive added another aurhor to my favorites

As always Monica McCarty comes through! Erik and Ellie offset each other perfectly and the author gives us more insight to the conflict between England and Scotland and Robert the Bruce rise back to the crown. I absolutely can't wait until December for the Ranger to come out.

Excellent sequel to the first novel (The Chief), with lots of action, suspense and drama; definitely not an ordinary read. This book totally stood on its own; no need to read the first book in order to read this one. Monica McCarty definitely intrigues her readers by providing a good plot that is realistic within the historical facts of the time. She provides us with Author Notes and details that spark her imagination into providing an excellent historical romance. Although we all know Robert the Bruce's real life ending, this author captivates her readers with an excellent romantic tale around important events within Scottish history. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next installment within this series (The Ranger). Thanks for providing the excerpt for this next read.

I expected more in this book, The Hawk was a great character in The Chief (previous book) so I really expected this story to be more interesting. Hawk the all time hero, good looking with great skills falls for just an average nursemaid ellie. Hawk pulls away from his attraction to Ellie since his duty to Bruce gets in the way. In the end I feel that Ellie forgives Hawk too fast, after he breaks her heart twice. But more then the story i appericate the main story line, I love learning about how Bruce returns to the crown, all of the other highland guards. I would have like a bit more about how Tor (from the chief) balances his life with his wife. But I am glad the plot behind The Ranger is explained. I still will read her other books- I love them.

fast paced novel full of action. hero and heroine very likeable. some steamy love scenes.
