Paul Charles' series gets better with each book. He writes solid, non-gory, police procedurals, with the requisite ongoing problematic, but developing relationship between the protagonist officer and the interesting woman. The writing has gotten more solid, less forced in the descriptive details since the first book. It's not grand literature, but it's enjoyable in all the essential areas of plot, character, and description. There's just enough about popmusic to be fun, and nothing at all annoying or cloying.
