The Historic African Voyages of Hanno: Great Navigator, Discoverer of Ambazonia and Carthaginian King: The Great African Voyages of Hanno and ... Plights of Ambazonia (Histories of Ambazonia)

The Historic African Voyages of Hanno: Great Navigator, Discoverer of Ambazonia and Carthaginian King, subtitled The Great African Voyages of Hanno and his Discovery, a Brief History and the Plights of Ambazonia is the first book in the Histories of Ambazonia series and is a commemoration to the marvelous navigational and exploratory achievements of Hanno the Navigator as well as to his proven leadership skills which led to the success of his voyages. The book starts with an introduction which highlights key aspects of the Voyage of Hanno and his legacy as a great Navigator and Explorer of antiquity who achieved a historic feat that some people even today find it hard to believe and who during this epic voyage comes across the fiery eruption of the still active Mount Fako volcano and the Ambas Bay area, thus discovering Ambazonia; an Outstanding Navigator who was the first man to Circumnavigate Africa; and who becomes a leader of his people as King Hanno II of Carthage for 40 years till his death. The introduction also mentions the contemporaries of Hanno who wrote about his momentous voyage and the namings in modern times inspired by Hanno and his voyage as well as the use of his name in popular culture. This is followed by a description of Ambazonia and explanations of the nature, origins and some historical perspectives of Ambazonia. The introduction concludes with an overview of the plights of the people of Ambazonia since their annexation by the Republic of Cameroon and their ongoing resistance since October 2016 against the impunity of the occupying government of the Republic of Cameroon. This is followed by a comprehensive account and modern analysis of the first Voyage of Hanno during which he discovered Mount Fako and Ambazonia and founded and settledcolonies. This is followed by an overview of the translations of the original account of the Voyage of Hanno starting with the Greek Periplus of Hanno of 146 BC, the confirmatory retracing expedition of Polybius, first century writings relating to the Voyage and the Greek fifth century translation which was later copied by Greek and Byzantine clerks and of which only 2 copies have survived namely the ninth century Platinus Graecus 398 in the University Library of Heidelberg and the fourteenth century Codex Vatopedinus 655 in the Vatopedi monasery, parts of which are in the British Library in London and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. This is followed by the failed attempt of Sataspes, a cousin of King Xerxes I who remitted his death sentence on the condition that he circumnavigated Africa and whose failure resulted in his execution. This is followed by the accounts of the circumnavigation of Africa by Hanno which took off at the same time as the Voyage of Himilco to northwestern Europe. This is followed by a brief history of Ambazonia which starts with its discovery by Hanno the Navigator, then the founding of the Ambas Bay Colony by Alfred Saker, the establishment of the Ambas Bay Protectorate, its cessation to German Kamerun which is later divided into present-day Ambazonia, Cameroon and parts of Nigeria, Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon and Congo, the League of Nations mandates over the above colonies followed by the establishment of trusteeship agreements in 1946, the pre-independence history of Ambazonia, the plebiscite vote, the failure of the UN and Britain to convene the plebiscite-vote-validating international post-plebiscite constitutional conference and their allowing France and Cameroon to take advantage of the Ambazonians, the annexation of Ambazonia by Cameroon and ending with the current ongoing resistance of the Ambazonians against the impunity of the occupying government and concluding with how the international community could bring about the de-annexation of Ambazonia in reaffirmation of its sovereignty and the right of Ambazonians to self-determination.
