Max was looking at a hillside just imagining his dream house would be there overlooking the lake one day. He had a particular house in mind and after the architect and surveyor took a look at the site, she drew up a set of plans for him to take a look at. Not long after that, the once peaceful site roared into action. The excavator was soon at work and after they were through the cement foundation was put into place. Busy, busy, busy . . . there was a lot to be done. Next came the framers. "They build a floor frame to hold the house . . . and put the walls together on the floor and then [raised] them into place." Looking good! The house was really starting to look like a house after the roof and porch framing was done. In this book you will see the windows and doors put into place, the masons putting on the brick siding, the shingles being put on ("Green, please), the plumbers at work, the electrician installing the wiring, the insulation being placed in the walls, the drywall being placed on the walls and the ceilings, the painters working, the tile and carpet layers doing the flooring, the cabinets and counters being put into place and finally the gardeners working on the landscape. This is an uncommon look at how a house is put together from A to Z. The tiny details are missing, but children will get a very good idea how a house is put together. A nice little touch is Max's mischievous little Scottish terrier that manages to get into more of his share of trouble. In the back of the book is a listing of "people who helped Max and what they do." In the front of the book is an interesting black and white line drawing with a mishmash of assorted tools needed to complete the job. This is a popular book that will be appreciated big time by any youngster who is fascinated by anyone carrying so much as a hammer!
