Human Odyssey by Paul S. Kaplan is a very good book for basic to advanced reading on society from an American perspective. It is easy to read and understand. It is a thoughtful interpretation; review and analysis of "life-span development" in pre-2000 America. I first read it in 1999 and still find use for it in 2007. I am substitute teacher grades, K--12. I also guide young community college kids as well as older adults. I find that the information, perspective and academic theories extremely helpful in many of my lifetime situations and helping others with some of their challenges.
