BRAVO! Dario is The Guru of Internships & Career Information!

Bravo is aptly named! Lucky are those who read this book - ideal for high school & college students, parents, job-seekers, career advisors, career changers, employers and college alumni associations. I have been encouraging Dario Bravo to write a book about internships for over 12 years and, at last, the dream internship/career preparation book has become a reality. Now, everyone who reads Dario's book can benefit from his wisdom, experience and work at the UCLA Internships and Study Abroad Services Office (formerly known as the UCLA EXPO Center), which is now part of the UCLA Career Center. I must also mention the work of Dario's predecessor, Alex White, who helped set the foundation and linkages for many of the original UCLA internship/study abroad programs (when it was the UCLA EXPO Center) and who, had the great vision to recognize, hire and provide job growth opportunities to a younger Dario Bravo many years ago, opportunities which initially helped Dario on his way to become the GREAT UCLA Internship/Study Abroad Services Office manager, advocate, and representative to the world that he is today. Dario Bravo operates the BEST OF THE BEST in internship/career planning and preparation -- he is sort of a Santa Claus of internships and job preparation -- who will introduce you to the world of possibilities and valid action plans to achieve your career goals. What is especially impressive about Dario's work through his office is that, no matter what the student's economic situation, a way will be found for each committed UCLA student to have the means and ability (and at times, the clothing) to partake of internships. I studied the UCLA Washington DC internship program in coursework while working towards my education doctorate at UCLA and I also participated in the D.C. program one summer, so I speak to its strengths from the view of both an academic and a participant. The UCLA National Programs (e.g., government, NGO and other internships) in Sacramento, CA and in Washington, D.C., provide fabulous civic-engagement models that I believe all colleges and universities should make available to their students. Further, the National Program internships provide UCLA with a high profile and invaluable networks in both Sacramento and Washington, D.C. The students who participate in the National Programs not only demonstrate more much civic engagement afterwards, but also demonstrate more of a continuing, lifelong rah-rah engagement with UCLA as well as with current students and alumni who have passed through the National Programs internships. At last, the light is being shown on the great work being done at the UCLA Internships and Study Abroad Services Office as well as the great work of Dario Bravo in leading this office, growing the programs, and quietly creating a successful, dynamic model for other colleges and universities to follow. BRAVO! Encore! Encore!
