After running away from the orphanage, Pat and Dan find themselves homeless in Central Park, NY, eating leftover food from trash-bins and begging for money. On a cold winter morning, they are taken in by Miss Teresa, an elderly black Christian woman who takes pity on the teens. She adopts them because God has blessed her with a home after she too was homeless many years ago.Nine months later Miss Theresa passes away in her bed and leaves her old run-down house to Pat and Dan. Years go by and eventually they fall in love and marry and they have a son named Adam. For his 8th birthday, they buy Adam the bicycle he has been wishing for and he takes it out for a ride. A terrible bike accident leaves Adam in deep coma in hospital and doctors give his parents the news he has only months to live.However, something is happening in Adam's unconscious mind. A strange angel flies into Adam's room one morning and begins reading a story from a magical book about a little town named Pickersville.
