A nice group of selections from Omer Englebert's Lives
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
This little Penguin 60's book is a great introduction to "The Lives of the Saints." It is 90 pages long and contains brief accounts of the lives of about 60 saints in alphabetical order. A useful quick reference if you are studying Western art or just want to know the very basics of the more important saints in history. This is just a small selection of excerpts from Englebert's complete work though, so don't buy this expecting to get the whole thing, and don't pay too much for it. It originally retailed for under a dollar. Englebert's "Lives" is more modern and straightforward than Butler's more famous work from the mid-eighteenth-century. Englebert's dates from the early twentieth-century and is translated from the original French.
